News bulletin - You are now in Bear Country !
Covey Loop Trail is an easy hike,
starting out in the forest of lodgepole pines. This is new growth,
after the Red Bench Fire of 1988. Hiking in about .05 miles you come
to the meadow. In the spring you will find the meadow full of
wildflowers galore. The hills surrounding the meadow would lend
themselves to being a perfect hideout when seeking the illusive
wildlife of the area. Elk, deer, bear, fox, and coyotes are not
uncommon in this area. Pretty soon you head away from the meadow and back into the forest as you wind your way back to the Inside North Fork road. You will need to travel north on the road for about .05 miles back to your car at the Polebridge park entrance.

Glacier National Park is located in the northwest
corner of Montana, just north of Columbia Falls. The park encompasses more
than one million acres and is home to grizzly bear, moose, elk, along
with 63 varieties of wild mammals. While most of the roads in Glacier
National Park are closed off during the winter, this provides miles and
miles of tracks for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors are
seldom around in the dead of winter, so the muffled hush of the
snow covered woods is especially enticing and serene. |
