A Trip to Many Glacier Lodge

A friend and I recently took a trip in Glacier
National Park, and it was a trip that we will long remember.
We started our ride at
Lake Mc Donald Lodge, which is not too far into the park, {West
Glacier Entrance}. We had reservations on one of the Big Red Busses,
a generous gift to us from friends.
These red busses are 25 feet long and easily seat 17 passengers.
They have a canvas top which was rolled back so that we were able to
look up at the high peaks, while feeling the breeze and sun on our
faces. Many of the passengers stood up at times, with their heads
and arms above the cross bars to take pictures. What a lovely ride!
Our trip took us along the famous "Going To The Sun Road ". At every
turn there were gasps of amazement at the beauty of the scenery. We
had never seen mountains like these. They seemed to touch the sky,
and had been carved out by huge glaciers in the past.
Two places that I will long remember, are Heavens Peak and
St. Mary Lake, both are so beautiful. St
Mary Lake is ten miles long with a tiny island out in the middle
called Wild Goose Island. There are so many beautiful mountains and
smaller lakes, it was hard to decide on a favorite.
We stopped at the Logan Pass visitors
center. This very scenic spot sits on the Continental Divide. It
made us proud to see the fluttering flags of both the United States
and Canada. We took many pictures here.
Once again, back on the bus and on our way to Many Glacier. As we
drove into the Lodge we drove along
Swiftcurrent Lake. A very scenic lake which is filled with the
waters from five valleys.

We had a dramatic view of Mt. Gould from here. We ate lunch at Many
Glacier Lodge and looked out at panoramic beauty. The Ptarmigan
Dining Room serves both continental and American cuisine. They have
a breakfast buffet and lunch as well as dinner.

As we walked into this rustic but very comfortable Lodge we felt as
if we were in a Swiss Alpine Mountain hide away. This lovely lodge
was built in 1914 and 1915, and is the largest hotel in Glacier
National Park with 208 comfortable rooms. These rooms are on five
levels, all with Alpine views. There are also some suites with two
rooms and balconies. All rooms and restaurants are non smoking.
There is a massive lobby with comfortable seating to watch the
scenery or visit with others. It’s a perfect place to sit by the
fire and write home to those who will want to enjoy this for
themselves, after hearing from you.
We were told that most visitors have the pleasure of seeing mountain
goats, big horned sheep, and bears around this area, but since it
was such a beautiful sunny day with hikers coming and going steady,
may be why we didn’t see any.
We can only advise everyone who can, to take this beautiful trip.
And if you are up to it and time is on your side, enjoy one of the
several hikes in the area or catch a ride on one of the
boat trips available
in Glacier National Park.
