Avalanche Lake Trail
in Glacier National Park
4 miles round trip
The trail begins at the Trail of the Cedars Trailhead and follows the Trail of the Cedars Trail to the Avalanche Lake Trail.
Bears are known to be in this area so make lots of noise as you hike and do
not hike alone. As you begin your hike to the lake, Avalanche Creek
passes through a beautiful canyon of red argillite rock. Carry a
camera to capture the color and shapes of this scenic area.
Avalanche Lake is located in a narrow valley created by long-ago
glaciers. Surrounded on three sides by spectacular peaks
forming a bowl shape, the lake takes on the appearance of a mirror
resting at the bottom of the bowl.
Looking toward the north, Heavens Peak is beautifully framed by Avalanche Creek Valley.
Looking south toward the three waterfalls at the end of Avalanche Lake.
